Man charged with murder of 87-year-old after alleged robbery in north London

A man has been charged with the murder of an 87-year-old after an alleged robbery in north London, as reported by the police. Peter Augustine, 58, of Hornsey, is accused of killing pensioner John Mackey in Manor House. Augustine appeared at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, facing charges of murder and robbery. He has been remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey next week. The Metropolitan Police stated that officers responded to a report of a robbery on Goodchild Road just before 6pm on Tuesday.

The London Ambulance Service was called to the scene, and the 87-year-old man was taken to the hospital, where he sadly passed away on Thursday. The victim’s family has been notified and is receiving support from specialized officers.

Neighbor Sandra Murphy, 65, spoke at the scene on Friday, describing Mr. Mackey as a "beautiful, kind man" who "would do anything for anyone." She added, "He was so loved around here. No-one would have a bad word to say about John."

Several Liverpool FC players are expected to attend the funeral of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva in Portugal on Saturday.
