The two men have been charged with murder after the death of a teenager in Sheffield. Abdullah Yaser Abdullah al Yazidi, 16, tragically passed away after being struck by a car. He had recently arrived in the UK from Yemen in search of a brighter future, as his family had shared. Zulkernain Ahmed, aged 20, and Amaan Ahmed, aged 26, both residing at Locke Drive in Sheffield, are facing charges of murder and three counts of attempted murder. They are scheduled to appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The incident occurred in the Darnall area of the city, where Abdullah was walking innocently down a street when a grey Audi veered towards three electric bikes, ultimately hitting one. The car continued after colliding with the bike and tragically struck Abdullah. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the scene, leaving Abdullah critically injured. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Abdullah succumbed to his injuries. The rider of the electric bike, an 18-year-old, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment. Moreover, a 46-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman, previously detained on suspicion of aiding an offender, are presently on bail.
Abdullah’s relative, Saleh Alsirkal, who operates a corner shop that Abdullah frequented, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He mentioned how Abdullah’s father had brought him to the UK to provide him with a better future, only for tragedy to strike, shattering their hopes and dreams. Saleh Alsirkal described Abdullah as a kind-hearted boy who was devoted to caring for his family, especially his three sisters. Abdullah was enthusiastic about learning English and eagerly absorbed new words, finding joy in the process. He was known for his friendly nature, often engaging in conversations with customers at the shop, striving to befriend everyone he encountered. Despite his young age of 16, Abdullah exhibited remarkable intelligence and a strong desire to support his family.
The loss of Abdullah has deeply affected his loved ones and the community. The authorities are diligently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident to ensure justice is served. Our thoughts are with Abdullah’s family and friends during this difficult time.
