Small Plane Crashes at Southend Airport in Essex

A small plane has reportedly crashed at Southend Airport in Essex, leading to a serious incident according to Essex Police. Images shared online depicted a large cloud of black smoke, with witnesses describing it as a «fireball».

Essex Police issued a statement, stating, «We were alerted shortly before 4pm to reports of a collision involving one 12-metre plane. We are currently working with all emergency services at the scene, and this collaborative effort will continue for several hours.»

The public is urged to avoid the area to allow for the ongoing work by emergency services. Essex County Fire and Rescue Service deployed four crews, along with off-road vehicles, to the scene. Additionally, the East of England Ambulance Service reported the presence of four ambulances and four hazardous area response team vehicles.

An air ambulance has been dispatched to Southend Airport, with the incident still unfolding. David Burton-Sampson, MP for Southend West and Leigh, advised the public to stay away and allow emergency services to carry out their duties, expressing his concern for all involved.
