Metropolitan Police Officers Respond to Protest Outside Hotel in East London
Metropolitan Police officers were called to the scene of a protest outside a hotel in east London where asylum seekers are set to be housed. The protest occurred on Tuesday outside the four-star Britannia Hotel in Canary Wharf, which has been designated by the government as temporary accommodation for asylum seekers, as reported by Tower Hamlets Council.
A statement from the police last night confirmed their presence at the protest, stating, «Officers are currently in attendance at a protest outside a hotel in Canary Wharf. We have a policing plan in place and will continue to monitor events.»
A spokesperson for Tower Hamlets Council commented on the situation, saying, «We are aware of the government’s decision to use the Britannia Hotel in Canary Wharf to provide temporary accommodation for asylum seekers. It is crucial that the government ensures a comprehensive support package for those residing at the hotel. We are collaborating with the Home Office and partners to ensure all necessary safety and safeguarding measures are in place.»
