Former Sheffield United and MK Dons footballer George Baldock tragically passed away from drowning in his own swimming pool, as determined by an inquest. The 31-year-old’s death was ruled as an accident, with no drugs or alcohol present in his system, according to the proceedings at Milton Keynes Coroner’s Court.

Baldock, a Buckinghamshire-born defender who also played for Greece, was discovered in his pool in the Glyfada district of Athens on October 9. Despite efforts to revive him, he could not be saved. A post-mortem revealed the absence of drugs or alcohol in his system, highlighting a significant heart condition that made him susceptible to heart arrhythmias.

Following the incident, Greek authorities conducted an investigation which found no indications of foul play. Tributes flooded in from across the nation after Baldock’s untimely passing, with his former clubs and even a Nations League match between England and Greece at Wembley paying respects with moments of silence and black armbands.

In a heartfelt statement, Baldock’s family expressed their deep sorrow, remembering him as a beloved father, fiancé, son, brother, uncle, friend, and teammate. They highlighted his infectious personality and the enduring impact he had on those who knew him, promising to cherish the memories they shared and keep his spirit alive through his son.
