Authorities searching for a missing girl in the River Thames have tragically discovered a body.
Responding to a distress call on Friday, emergency services arrived at the scene near the Royal Terrace Pier in Gravesend, Kent, where two children, a boy, and a girl, were reported to be in trouble in the water after entering from nearby Royal Pier Road.
The boy was successfully rescued and is currently in stable condition at a local hospital.
Kent Police confirmed that the body was recovered around 11.40 am with the assistance of the RNFL (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) in a statement released on Saturday afternoon.
Formal identification of the missing girl by her next of kin has been completed, and authorities have stated that the death is not considered suspicious.
The condition of the boy has been described by the police as «not life-threatening.»
