A Cold War nuclear bunker hanging from a cliff edge could now be just weeks, if not days, away from falling into the sea. The bunker, built around 70 years ago as a look-out post, is precariously hanging off the Holderness coastline in Tunstall, East Yorkshire.

Amateur historian Davey Robinson, who is using a drone to film its final days, told Sky News’s The UK Tonight with Sarah-Jane Mee programme: «We were first told about it back in 2025 – it was quite wedged into the cliff still at that point. After that, we kept popping back. In November, we went and had a look. Four weeks later, we popped back and it had sunk down a foot and a half. You can go back to 2003 on Google Earth – it’s unbelievable how much land has gone.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council urged people to avoid the area amid fears that it could go any day. They have told residents to always «maintain a safe distance to the base of eroding cliffs due to the risks associated.»

Known as the Tunstall ROC (Royal Observer Corps) Post, the bunker is believed to have been built in 1959 – before it was decommissioned in the early 1990s. It comes as the Environment Agency warns that East Yorkshire has some of the fastest eroding coastline in the UK.

The Holderness coastline is eroding at an average annual rate of about 6.5ft (2m), they claim.
