Two more arrested for murder after 14-year-old shot dead in London

Following the tragic fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy in southeast London, two more individuals have been taken into custody on suspicion of murder. Eghosa Ogbebor lost his life in Woolwich on Thursday. The authorities have apprehended a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man on suspicion of murder, both of whom are currently in custody. Additionally, a 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and remains detained.

Furthermore, two boys aged 14 and 16, and an 18-year-old man, who were taken into custody on Friday in connection with the incident, have since been released on bail as investigations continue. The incident took place near the Woolwich Ferry and Woolwich Dockyard train station on Lord Warwick Street at approximately 3:40 pm on Thursday.

Eghosa was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities are providing support to his family through specialized officers. Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card of the Metropolitan Police reassured the public, stating, «Our team of dedicated detectives is actively working on inquiries to investigate the tragic death of Eghosa.»

She added, «Residents in Woolwich may have observed a significant police presence last night, as three additional individuals were arrested in connection with the investigation. We acknowledge the concern that Eghosa’s passing has stirred, particularly within the local community, who will continue to witness heightened police activity in the area.»

DCI Card emphasized, «There could be individuals who have information or witnessed suspicious activities in the area but have not yet come forward to the police. We urge these individuals to reach out to us and assist in the investigation.»

She continued, «We will continue to provide support and updates to Eghosa’s family as the investigation progresses, and our thoughts remain with them during this incredibly challenging time.»

London mayor Sir Sadiq Khan expressed his condolences, stating, «My thoughts are with the family, friends, and the wider community in Woolwich following the tragic fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy. There is absolutely no tolerance for this heart-wrenching violence.»

This incident marks the second fatal shooting in the capital within a week. Nahom Medhanie, 26, was tragically shot while seated in a car near Euston station in central London around 11 pm on the previous Saturday.
