Martin Parr CBE, the renowned British documentary photographer celebrated as "a giant" of his field, passed away at the age of 73. The Martin Parr Foundation confirmed his death in a statement on their website, expressing deep sadness over the loss. Parr, known for his exceptional work in photography, leaves behind his wife Susie, daughter Ellen, sister Vivien, and grandson George. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time.

Both the Martin Parr Foundation and Magnum Photos will collaborate to preserve and share Martin’s influential legacy. Recognized in the Queen’s 2021 birthday honours with a CBE for his contributions to photography, Parr was described as "one of the best-known documentary photographers of his generation" on his foundation’s website. Born in Surrey and based in Bristol, he was a member of Magnum Photos since 1994 and served as president from 2013 to 2017.

In 2017, Parr founded the Martin Parr Foundation as a dedicated space for British photography. Known for his unique style, Parr once stated, "With photography, I like to create fiction out of reality. I try and do this by taking society’s natural prejudice and giving this a twist." His work is prominently featured in esteemed museums such as the Tate in the UK, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The British Journal of Photography paid tribute to Parr, acknowledging him as a "giant of photography" who revolutionized documentary photography at Magnum Photos. Parr’s influence extended beyond his own work as he supported and championed other image-makers through his collection, publishing endeavors, and gallery space.

To honor Martin Parr’s legacy, the Martin Parr Foundation continues to be a hub for British photography, preserving his impactful contributions to the art form. Photographs from Parr’s extensive body of work have left a lasting impression on the world of photography, garnering admiration from audiences globally.
