Lord Mandelson has resigned from the Labour Party to prevent causing further embarrassment after documents in newly released files suggested he received $75,000 from Jeffrey Epstein.

The latest files from the US Department of Justice include three apparent bank statements detailing three transfers of $25,000 each from the paedophile financier to the former British ambassador to Washington in 2003 and 2004.

It is uncertain whether the payments were deposited into any specific accounts.

Sunday’s findings from the Epstein files

Lord Mandelson, who was the Labour MP for Hartlepool when the files indicate the payments were made, resigned from the party on Sunday night.

The peer, who has denied any knowledge of the payments and questioned their authenticity, expressed his regret in a statement and apologized to the women and girls affected by the situation.

The former UK ambassador to the US, who was dismissed over his ties to Epstein, was pictured in the files wearing only his underwear.

He expressed regret and sorrow over the weekend revelations linking him to the controversy surrounding Epstein, who passed away in prison in 2019.

Sky News uncovered video footage of Epstein being interrogated about his actions and the source of his money.

In the video, Epstein, wearing glasses and a black shirt, responds to questions during an interview.

At one point, the interviewer asks Epstein if his money is «dirty money», to which Epstein replies, «No, it’s not.»

When asked why not, Epstein states, «Because I earned it.»

He is then questioned about his wealth being earned from advising individuals who engage in harmful activities, to which Epstein remarks that «ethics is always a complicated subject.»

Epstein goes on to mention donating money to aid in eradicating polio in Pakistan and India.

The interviewer then asks Epstein about the origin of his donations, leading to the following exchange:

Epstein: I think if you told them the devil himself said ‘I’m going to exchange some dollars for your child’s life’…

Interviewer: Do you think you’re the devil himself?

Epstein: No, but I do have a good mirror.

Interviewer: It’s a serious question. Do you think you’re the devil himself?

Epstein: I don’t know. Why do you feel that way?

Interviewer: Because you possess all the necessary qualities –

Epstein: No, I am afraid of the devil.

The identity of the person interviewing Epstein is not shown on screen, but it is believed to be Steve Bannon, former chief strategist of Donald Trump.

Mr. Bannon served in the White House for the initial seven months of Trump’s presidency.

The timing and location of the interview, as well as the reason for Bannon specifically speaking to Epstein, remain unclear.

The footage was part of a release of over 2,000 videos by the US Department of Justice, along with millions of pages and images.

Pressure is mounting on both Lord Mandelson and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor to testify before the US Congress regarding their connections to Epstein.

The latest batch of Epstein files includes three images that appear to show Andrew in a compromising position with a woman, with the details unspecified. Epstein then claims he donated money to help try to eradicate polio in Pakistan and India. «What are you, [a] class 3 sexual predator?» the interviewer asks. «Tier 1. I’m the lowest,» Epstein responds. The interviewer asks if those receiving Epstein’s donations knew where the money came from, leading to the following exchange: Epstein: I think if you told them the devil himself said ‘I’m going to exchange some dollars for your child’s life’… Interviewer: Do you think you’re the devil himself?
