One of Britain’s most prominent online beauty retailers, Beauty Bay, based in Manchester, is currently exploring options to raise new funding through a strategic review that may result in an outright sale. The company has appointed advisers to oversee this process, which is expected to begin this week.
Beauty Bay offers a wide range of products, including over 200 brands such as Ariana Grande, Clinique, and MAC, along with its own-brand product line. Founded in 1999 by brothers Arron and David Gabbie under the name Fragrance Bay, the company has seen significant growth over the years.
In light of challenging market conditions, including inflationary pressures and fragile consumer confidence affecting various retailers, Beauty Bay is seeking a buyer or investment partner to help stabilize and drive the business forward. The goal is to enhance and expand its ‘By Beauty Bay’ own-label product offerings.
The Gabbie brothers had previously considered a stock market flotation for the business, but opted for a separate sale process in 2022, which did not materialize into a transaction. Currently, Interpath, an advisory firm, is collaborating with Beauty Bay on this strategic review process.
With a workforce of 65 employees and a customer base of 5 million people, Beauty Bay remains a key player in the online beauty retail sector. However, the company has chosen not to provide further comments on the matter at this time.
