Not only did he tip the police off about the prisoner’s whereabouts, but he also witnessed the other high-profile manhunt that ended in the same park last month.

Ethiopian asylum seeker Hadush Kebatu was also arrested in Finsbury Park after a 48-hour manhunt in the capital. He was then deported to Ethiopia.

«When he [Kebatu] got arrested in the park I was there,» Nadjib said.

I asked him why both men ended up in the same park in north London.

«Because the community, he came here for the community of Algerians,» he said.

Several Algerian people that I spoke to on Friday told me how shameful they thought it was that this sex offender was still on the run.

«Job done,» Nadjib said, before walking off.

He has been present in this area every evening since his release from prison. Nadjib, a North African man, has been vigilant in keeping an eye out for a convicted sex offender who had been frequenting various parts of north London following his release from HMP Wandsworth. Carrying a newspaper clipping with the offender’s image, Nadjib was relieved when the police finally apprehended him after a high-profile manhunt in Finsbury Park.

Nadjib’s vigilance didn’t stop there. He not only assisted the police in locating the wanted prisoner but also witnessed another significant manhunt that concluded in the same park just a month prior. This time, it was Ethiopian asylum seeker Hadush Kebatu who was arrested after a 48-hour search in the capital and subsequently deported to Ethiopia.

«When he [Kebatu] got arrested in the park I was there,» Nadjib recounted. Curious as to why both men ended up in the same park in north London, Nadjib explained, «Because the community, he came here for the community of Algerians.»

Speaking to several Algerian individuals, Nadjib shared their sentiments of shame regarding the sex offender still being at large. With a sense of accomplishment, Nadjib simply stated, «Job done,» before departing.

Nadjib’s actions were pivotal in the apprehension of these individuals, showcasing a community’s effort in ensuring safety and justice. He was then expelled to Ethiopia.
