Former first minister Nicola Sturgeon has made the decision not to run for re-election to Holyrood next year.
Having served as an MSP since 1999, the former SNP leader expressed that representing Glasgow Southside has been a deeply meaningful experience.
In a statement on Instagram, Ms Sturgeon shared: «Nevertheless, I have felt in my heart for some time that it is the right moment for me to explore new opportunities in a different phase of my life.
«As a result, I have sent a letter this morning to SNP members in my constituency informing them that I will not be seeking selection for the upcoming Holyrood election.»
Ms Sturgeon expressed her gratitude to both past and present constituents for the confidence they have shown in her.
She continued: «Serving as your MSP has been a privilege and I will continue to represent you to the best of my abilities until my departure next year.
«To the members of the Southside SNP: your unwavering support, loyalty, and friendship, in good times and bad, have meant more to me than words can express. You are truly exceptional.»
«To SNP members across the nation: although I may be stepping down from parliament, I will stand beside you every step of the way as we work towards achieving our goal of independence.»
