Police have discovered human remains while conducting a search for a woman who went missing almost two decades ago. Malgorzata Wnuczek, a 27-year-old woman from Poland, disappeared on 31 May 2006 in Leicester.
She was last seen taking a bus from Peter Jackson Logistics in Sunningdale Road, Leicester, where she was employed, to the city center. The last communication she had with her family, who lovingly called her Gosia, was via a text message on 29 May 2006.
Authorities have indicated that it is currently «unknown» if the remains found in the scrubland off the Great Central Way belong to Ms. Wnuczek. Further «forensic tests will be conducted to determine the identity of the individual in question.» Leicestershire Police has stated that the search in the area will continue.
Detective Superintendent Jenni Greenway, the senior investigating officer, mentioned, «While I understand that this news may be surprising to the community, I hope that this discovery will provide us with insights that will help us comprehend what may or may not have happened to Malgorzata. Officers will remain in the Watkin Road area to conduct additional investigations and provide support to the local residents.»
The police are in contact with Ms. Wnuczek’s family, who have requested privacy during this time of uncertainty.

Despite appeals from both the police and her loved ones in 2016, marking a decade since her disappearance, the whereabouts of Malgorzata Wnuczek remain unknown. In June 2023, authorities conducted a search of the River Soar between the bridges in Mill Lane and Upperton Road for several days.
The discovery of human remains off the Great Central Way on Wednesday occurred after Leicestershire Police initiated a search of the area on 30 September for any evidence that could shed light on the disappearance of Ms. Wnuczek, following additional information provided by Polish authorities.
