A former Strictly Come Dancing star who tragically took his own life in 2024 was determined by an inquest jury to have been «vulnerable to rejection both emotionally and professionally.» The professional dancer in question was Robin Windsor, aged 44, whose lifeless body was discovered in a hotel room in Shepherd’s Bush.

It was revealed during the proceedings that Robin left behind a note expressing how the way he was treated following his departure from Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 had a devastating impact on him. The jury deliberated for approximately two hours before delivering their findings, attributing his mental health deterioration and subsequent suicide to a combination of factors, including childhood trauma, emotional and professional rejection, loneliness, lack of emotional maturity, mounting debts, inconsistent mental health care, and recurring heartache.

Robin Windsor had graced the Strictly dance floor for four seasons starting from 2010, where he partnered with notable figures such as Dragon’s Den star Deborah Meaden and actresses Patsy Kensit, Anita Dobson, and Lisa Riley. Unfortunately, he was unable to participate in the 2014 series due to a back injury and was eventually dropped in 2015. Despite this setback, he made a guest appearance in the Christmas special that year, dancing alongside TV presenter Alison Hammond.

In the aftermath of the jury’s conclusion, Coroner Dr. Anton van Dellen expressed his hope that Robin’s family could find solace in the positive impact he had on countless individuals through his dancing. Dr. van Dellen emphasized the importance of cherishing the happy memories Robin brought to the public and the deep affection they held for him.

For those struggling with emotional distress or suicidal thoughts, assistance is available through organizations like Samaritans. In the UK, individuals can seek help by calling 116 123 or emailing jo@samaritans.org. In the US, they can reach out to their local Samaritans branch or call 1 (800) 273-TALK.

The tragic loss of Robin Windsor serves as a stark reminder of the profound impact rejection and mental health struggles can have on individuals, highlighting the importance of providing adequate support and care for those in need. His legacy as a talented dancer and beloved public figure will continue to be remembered and cherished by many.
